This delightful, rare and collectible late Victorian antique jewellery piece is a lovely example of a large Victorian mourning locket.

The locket is not hallmarked but believed to be solid gold front and back with brass framework (used to strengthen the piece).   The locket has gorgeous detailing and craftsmanship to the extremely fancy and lavish border that frames it.  The centre decoration being a pretty floral sentiment with sprig/bud detail to a second stem.  The flower, most probably a 'Forget-Me-Not', is set with seed pearls and coral beads. The colours being so delicate and desirable.

Adding interest to the reverse side of the locket is again, the matching decorative pattern around the border of the piece (using different wonderful techniques).  To the centre there being pretty engraving of a shield topped by further floral tribute. The locket closes securely.

This historic locket is very beautiful and would be a wonderful collectable eclectic addition to your antique jewellery, which is bound to be a conversation starter - A true little piece of history.
