This quality, bold and beautiful, collectible Victorian antique jewellery piece is a lovely example of a large Victorian statement locket in all its elaborate glory.
 
This collector's item is an example of fine, skilled workmanship.  The centre is a domed shaped oval with beautiful engraving of a fern leaf.  Surrounding the dome is twisted rope detail which is framed by simply beautiful filigree work, which reminds me of lace.  Framing the border is more gorgeousness in the form of pierced star detailing finally topped off with pretty silver ball detail to the edges.  Indeed, the decoration continues around the edge (depth) of the locket with the pierced star detail repeated on the reverse side of the smooth back, where you will also admire the fine hallmarking for sterling silver. 
 
The lockets closing mechanism is in excellent working order and when opening, you will find the original pink silk slips and glass/perspex lens. 
 
The locket has a handsome chunky 'bale' which is suspended from a pretty and visually pleasing bracket (details details!)
 
This historic locket is very beautiful and would be a wonderful collectable eclectic addition to your antique jewellery, which is bound to be a conversation starter - A true little piece of history.
